This past weekend, I went to the Original Renaissance Faire with my family and friends. This was my first time attending and it was an amazing experience. We got to see a jousting tournament, eat turkey legs, marveled at the beautiful, intricate costumes, and so much more. I wanted to share with you all some photos as well as our outfits.

According to historians, the Renaissance era is said to have begun during the late 14th century in Italy right after the period of the Middle Ages. When I think about the history and culture of Italy, I think about art. It’s in everything that they do, from architecture to paintings to music and especially celebrations.

Often times, Renaissance fairs have themed costume days during the season. Steampunk, as a costume genre, is becoming one of the biggest trends at Renaissance fairs. Since Renaissance enthusiasts are usually fascinated by history, it’s no surprise that the two go hand in hand. This year, if you’re attending a steampunk day, but want to save money on a costume, I’m going to show you how to give an old costume a steampunk makeover by adding a few accessories and simple modifications.

Today’s “what to wear” topic is a little personal because today I’m going to share with you what I’m actually going to wear to my next costume event. Next month, I am planning to attend the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale during its opening weekend which is really exciting because it will be my first time. I’m taking the whole family which includes my husband, two boys, and me (of course).

Today’s topic for our Renaissance Party Series is for the grown ups, especially those who enjoy good food and good drink! When it comes to fare at the faire, you can bet that you’ll always find a tall glass of ale and delicious meats. In fact for some, it’s the best part of any Renaissance fair. For many people, food is a great way to explore and learn about a culture or civilization and in this case, you and your guests can experience what it might have been like to celebrate during that time.
