Free Comic Book Day is a special day coordinated by comic book publishers, retailers, and other reading partners to encourage comic book reading by offering free comic books on this assigned day. Typically scheduled for the first Saturday in May, this annual event is held nationwide at participating comic book stores who give away anywhere from one or more pre-selected comic books to anyone who comes in to the store.

If you spent any time on the internet last weekend, it was hard to miss all the hoopla surrounding the huge Star Wars fan convention held in Anaheim, CA. With the newest episode in the Star Wars saga to be released later this year and May the Fourth approaching, this was probably one of the most exciting Star Wars Celebration events ever!

This past weekend, I went to the Original Renaissance Faire with my family and friends. This was my first time attending and it was an amazing experience. We got to see a jousting tournament, eat turkey legs, marveled at the beautiful, intricate costumes, and so much more. I wanted to share with you all some photos as well as our outfits.

For those who love comics and comic book characters, there’s one day you’ll want to mark on your calendar. May 2^nd is the return of Free Comic Book Day. On Free Comic Book Day, participating comic book stores will be giving out free comic books from a pre-selected assortment. The participating stores may offer anywhere from one or more free comic book depending on their individual policies.

Great news everyone! Con season is here! Now that spring is here, it’s time to come out of hibernation and get together to celebrate your favorite fandom! This month, in California alone, there are two great conventions happening in just the first week...

Often times, Renaissance fairs have themed costume days during the season. Steampunk, as a costume genre, is becoming one of the biggest trends at Renaissance fairs. Since Renaissance enthusiasts are usually fascinated by history, it’s no surprise that the two go hand in hand. This year, if you’re attending a steampunk day, but want to save money on a costume, I’m going to show you how to give an old costume a steampunk makeover by adding a few accessories and simple modifications.

Today’s “what to wear” topic is a little personal because today I’m going to share with you what I’m actually going to wear to my next costume event. Next month, I am planning to attend the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale during its opening weekend which is really exciting because it will be my first time. I’m taking the whole family which includes my husband, two boys, and me (of course).

It’s time for another Pin to Win Contest! This month, we’re shifting the spotlight to one of the most interesting periods in history, the Renaissance. Spring is creeping closer which means that Renfair season is not far behind. In fact, the annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, CA opens in just a few short weeks! With all the excitement, it’s got us thinking about the adventure, excitement, and whimsical spirit of the period.

With Read Across America Day coming up, we just couldn't get Dr. Seuss off of our minds. Coincidentally enough, we ran across a local family event in Redondo Beach for a show called Seussical the Musical. It’s a family-friendly musical that combines some of Dr. Seuss’ most popular stories, (including The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas), into one incredible show. The musical performances take you through a variety of genres from pop to gospel to swing and more.

We had so much fun on our last cosplay adventure that we couldn’t wait to do it again. Luckily for us, we just heard about the annual Long Beach Comic Expo which is scheduled to return at the end of this month.
