Renaissance Faire season in Southern California is here! We decided to be some of the first to experience it this year and headed to opening day of The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire here in Irwindale, California! The weather was a perfect low-70s, a huge contrast compared to the 90-degree weather we had last year! It was the perfect day to head out in layers of Renaissance-themed clothing.

Inspired by my already red-colored hair as well as my love for The Little Mermaid, I chose Ariel as my Disney Princess that I would be trying to re-imagine as a maiden of the Renaissance Era, but I was specifically inspired by Ariel's blue dress that she wears in the boat during the "Kiss The Girl" song. You may remember that we went dressed as Renaissance versions of our favorite Disney Princesses and my favorite happens to be Mulan. Luckily with a little bit of paint and imagination, you can turn a simple retractable pair of wings into the wings of your dreams without breaking the bank! Here in sunny Los Angeles, our local Renaissance Faire is currently entertaining every Saturday and Sunday until May 20th. This year, on select weekends they have special themes that they encourage their guests to dress up with. Our Pure Costumes team decided to attend the weekend of May 5th, which was themed "Time Traveler Weekend" which included a steampunk costume contest. Although we didn't go to enter the contest, we went to (a) participate in a fun dress up event, and (b) see what other people have come up with for their Steampunk costumes. We were not disappointed, there were tons of attendees wearing great steampunk and renaissance themed costumes.

Summer is slowly creeping up which means it's Ren Faire season! If you've never been to a Renaissance Faire, imagine your local County Fair full of fun foods, carnival games...

A couple of weeks ago, Pure Costumes decided to take a trip to our local Renaissance Fair. You can read Alia's recap of our trip here. The weekend we visited happened to be Time Traveler's Weeked so we decided to break out our best Steampunk looks. March is here and 2018 is flying by quickly! You would expect this month's round-up of costume events to only include St. Patrick's Day events, but there's so much more than that! I combed through the overload of Irish themed bar crawls to find some unique events for this month!

If you frequent the Annual Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, you’ll know that they hosted their very first Renn Con this past weekend. The idea behind Renn Con was to open up the Renaissance Faire to cosplay of all types, allowing attendees to get creative. Many people went all out, and some even mashed up Renaissance Faire attire with well-known characters from all areas of pop culture. With so much room for creativity, the possibilities were endless! Since we heard about this scheduled event, we’ve been super excited to see what Renn Con 2017 would bring, and we were definitely not disappointed. Here are some of our favorites.
